Pre-orders have launched in Ukraine for L.J. Smith's novel "The Vampire Diaries: The Awakening" — the first book of the vampire saga, which later inspired the television series of the same name. This was reported by Wave RBC.UA citing Artbooks publishing house. The estimated release date for the publication is January 15, 2027, and the book will be published in Ukrainian for the very first time. ### Publication Details and Pre-order Terms The novel will be printed in a hardcover edition spanning 220 pages. The Ukrainian translation was done by Olha Pylypenko. Pre-orders are already open on the ARTBOOKS publishing website: the promotional pre-order price is 399 hryvnias, while the full retail price of the edition is set at 500 hryvnias. Thus, readers who place a pre-order will be able to purchase the book at a discount compared to the retail price. ### Plot and Key Difference from the Adaptation At the center of the story is Elena Gilbert, a popular high school senior used to getting what she wants and being the center of attention. A new student, Stefan Salvatore, disrupts this order: he shows no interest in her and keeps his distance. Behind his behavior lies a secret — Stefan is a vampire, and getting close to him could cost Elena her life. With the arrival of his older brother Damon in town, their acquaintance turns into a dangerous love triangle. For readers familiar with the story solely through the television series, a notable surprise awaits: in the original book, Elena is a platinum blonde. ### History of the Saga and the Path to Adaptation The first book of "The Vampire Diaries" was published in 1991 — long before the renewed surge of popularity in vampire romance; for comparison, Stephenie Meyer's first "Twilight" appeared only in 2005. Initially, L.J. Smith planned a trilogy, but the success of the story led to a fourth installment and, eventually, new cycles within the series. The saga gained a new generation of fans in 2009 when the television adaptation premiered on The CW network, starring Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley, and Ian Somerhalder as Elena, Stefan, and Damon — the heroes of a story about love, family rivalry, and supernatural dangers. ## Fact-Check & Sources - ["Дневники вампира" впервые выйдут на украинском языке: чем книга удивит поклонников сериала](https://wave.rbc.ua/ukr/culture/shchodenniki-vampira-vpershe-vidadut-ukrayinskoyu-1793269793.html) - Primary source: pre-order, date 15.01.2027, prices 399/500 UAH, 220 pages, translator, plot, history of the saga and the 2009 adaptation.
