Venezuela continues to mourn the victims of devastating natural disasters. By Friday evening, June 26, the tragedy in the country had taken on even larger dimensions. Following a series of powerful tremors, the death toll exceeded 900 people, and according to the latest data, 172 people remain trapped under the rubble of destroyed buildings.

### Scale of the Catastrophe and Humanitarian Crisis

The situation in the affected regions remains critical. According to official government data, 3,360 people have sustained injuries of varying degrees of severity. However, the most alarming figure remains the number of missing persons, which exceeds 50,000. This indicates that the scale of destruction and the complexity of search and rescue operations are colossal.

Particular concern is caused by the delay in the arrival of international aid. Foreign rescue teams and humanitarian cargo began arriving in the affected areas only several days after the start of the catastrophe. This time, when every minute counts for saving people from under the rubble, was lost.

### New Tremors and Destruction in Caracas

The force of nature is not subsiding. Reuters reports that on Friday, another earthquake with a magnitude of 4.9 occurred in Venezuela. The epicenter was in a zone where the tremor was felt both in the capital, Caracas, and in the nearby city of Maracaibo.

Recall that the main blow to the country's infrastructure was dealt as early as Wednesday evening, June 24. Then two powerful earthquakes followed in succession with magnitudes of 7.1 and 7.5. It was they that caused mass destruction in Caracas, turning many buildings into ruins.

According to the UN, the devastating consequences of the disaster affected almost 2 million buildings across the country. The direct economic damage is estimated at a staggering $6.7 billion.

### Political Consequences of the Catastrophe

In addition to the humanitarian and economic tragedy, the earthquakes pose serious risks to political stability in the country. Experts from Reuters point out that the catastrophe could have serious consequences for interim President Delcy Rodríguez.

Rodríguez, who previously held the post of Vice President under the ousted Nicolás Maduro, is now trying to position herself as a conduit for political change. However, the inability to promptly cope with the consequences of the natural disaster and the delay in international aid could undermine her authority and chances of success in the political race.
