# Verdict from Moscow: Bandera and Shukhevych Recognized as Nazi Accomplices

The Tverskoy Court in Moscow has issued an unprecedented ruling that could fundamentally alter the perception of key figures of Ukrainian nationalism within the Russian legal framework. At the request of the General Prosecutor's Office of the Russian Federation, Stepan Bandera and Roman Shukhevych have officially been recognized as accomplices of Nazi Germany.

### Court Verdict: Complicity in War Crimes

Judge Evgeny Komissarov announced the decision, granting the prosecutor's claim. During the proceedings, it was established that the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN), led by Stepan Bandera, as well as the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA), headed by Roman Shukhevych, acted in complicity with Nazi Germany.

According to the text of the ruling, these organizations and their leaders are implicated in committing war crimes and crimes against humanity against the Soviet people during World War II. The court justified its decision by the need to preserve the memory of genocide victims, annul any acts of rehabilitating war criminals, and halt extremist activities directed against Russia.

### Diplomatic Resonance: Conflict with Poland

The court proceedings in Moscow are taking place against the backdrop of strained relations between Kyiv and Warsaw. At the end of May, diplomatic tension reached a peak after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy awarded an honorary title, "Heroes of the UPA," to a special unit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

This decision provoked a sharp negative reaction in Poland. Warsaw views the UPA as the perpetrator of the Volhynian Tragedy of 1943–1945, which the Polish side interprets as a genocide of the Polish population. Against this backdrop, Polish Minister of Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz made a stern statement: Warsaw will not support Ukraine's accession to the European Union if Kyiv does not abandon the honoring of controversial historical figures.

### Historical Figures as an Obstacle to European Integration

According to the Polish minister, the continued use of OUN and UPA symbols as state symbols could become a serious barrier to Ukraine's path to EU membership. While Moscow legally solidifies the status of these leaders as Nazi accomplices, processes of canonizing these figures continue within Ukraine itself. The state has begun the reburial of national heroes, and a draft law is being prepared in the Verkhovna Rada to create a National Pantheon, which is intended to include the most outstanding figures of Ukrainian history.
