# 20th time: The Verkhovna Rada prepares to extend martial law and mobilization until the end of October

A major vote is brewing in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. The parliament is likely to consider the issue of extending martial law and general mobilization as early as next week. This will be the 20th decision by the current convocation of deputies on this matter.

### Extension terms and voting date

According to information received by RBC-Ukraine from the Telegram channel of People's Deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will submit the relevant draft laws to parliament in the near future. The documentation provides for the extension of the special regime for another 90 days — from August 2 to October 31, 2026.

The consideration of the draft laws is expected to take place during the upcoming plenary week, scheduled for July 14–15. If the deputies support the initiative, the martial law and mobilization regime will remain in effect until the end of autumn.

### Political context and comments

People's Deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak, who was the source of the information, ironically reacted to the latest extension. He noted that "applications for 'election witnesses already in September' are closed." Thus, the parliamentarian hinted at the lack of real grounds to expect elections to be held in the autumn of the current year.

### Situation with mobilization and deferments

Along with the extension of martial law, mobilization rules continue to apply in Ukraine. Earlier, the Ministry of Defense explained to citizens the difference between deferment and protection (bronirovanie), and also reported that most existing deferments are currently extended automatically.

Lawyer Tatyana Lebedeva previously told RBC-Ukraine about legal nuances: under what conditions deferments and protection can be annulled. These clarifications remain relevant against the backdrop of the upcoming vote in parliament.
