The UN Security Council meeting in New York turned into a diplomatic scandal. The US refused to issue visas to high-ranking representatives from Russia and Iran who were scheduled to participate in the key event. This decision provoked a sharp reaction from the organization's permanent members.

### Russia's Diplomatic Protest

Russia's Permanent Representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, openly accused Washington of violating its obligations. According to him, the American side did not provide a visa for Alexander Alimov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia. Nebenzya emphasized that the invitation for the official was personally sent by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who is chairing the current session.

"This is a glaring case of disrespect," the Russian ambassador stated, noting that all attempts to persuade US authorities to issue the visa were in vain. For Moscow, this became yet another proof that the US is sabotaging the normal functioning of international institutions.

### Iran in Isolation

The visa situation affected not only Moscow. As sources at the UN reported, a visa barrier was also established for Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. He also failed to arrive in New York to participate in the discussion.

UN Spokesperson Farhan Haq commented on the incident cautiously, noting that the organization does not know the exact reasons for the visa refusal for the Iranian minister. However, he emphasized that the UN expects the US to fulfill its obligations to issue visas to all individuals whose presence is necessary for the organization's work.

### Context and Consequences

The main topic of the meeting was the observance of the UN Charter and the strengthening of multilateral cooperation. The irony of the situation lies in the fact that the discussion of global stability is taking place against the backdrop of an obvious crisis within the security structure itself. Earlier, Nebenzya used the podium to spread false information about the preparation of Ukrainian drone strikes from the territory of Baltic states, which only increased the tension in the hall.

Parallel to the events at the UN, the EU Council extended for one year the sanctions against individuals responsible for human rights violations and undermining democracy in Russia. This decision underscores that the political confrontation between the West and Moscow is not weakening but transforming into new forms of pressure.
