# VKontakte has fully moved to vk.ru: what has changed for users and where to download apps now

One of the most popular social networks in Russia has completed a major stage of digital transformation. The VK Holding officially announced the completion of the platform's migration to the address in the Russian domain zone. Now, the main resource through which users access services is vk.ru. Previously, the main address was vk.com, but it is no longer the priority.

### Domain change: speed and reliability

Users received a notification from the platform administration urging them to switch to the new address. The message stated that the service works faster and more reliably on vk.ru than on the old domain. The administration emphasized that in the future, support for service availability will be provided exclusively in the .ru domain zone. This decision is aimed at optimizing the platform's performance and improving the user experience in the current digital reality.

### Access issues with apps in Google Play

The events surrounding the domain change coincided with the disappearance of VK apps from the Russian section of the Google Play Store. Not only the "VKontakte" and "Odnoklassniki" clients disappeared from the store, but also the "Max" messenger and the Mail.ru mail client. This was a result of changes in the software distribution policy in Russia.

The company's press service stated that the listed software products are now available on alternative platforms. Users are recommended to download apps via RuStore, Huawei AppGallery, Samsung Galaxy Store, Xiaomi GetApps, and other Android app stores. These platforms ensure full functionality and the security of updates.

### Removal of apps from the App Store

The situation worsened for Apple device owners. In early June, Apple removed the "Max" messenger app from the App Store, followed by several other VK family products. The iPhone manufacturer explained its actions as a necessity to comply with international sanctions. This means that iPhone users can no longer update or install these apps through the official Apple store.

### What does this mean for users?

For most users, switching to vk.ru will not require additional actions — the site will automatically redirect to the new address. However, it is important to remember that old links to vk.com may not work correctly or may require a manual transition. It is also worth preparing alternative sources for installing apps in advance, especially if you use an iOS-based device.

VK Holding continues to develop its services and adapt to new conditions. The domain change and the transfer of apps to alternative platforms are part of the strategy to ensure stable and independent operation of the ecosystem in Russia.
