# "Blind, stupid or simply wreckers": Voronin slams Ukrainian football bosses after national team fiasco

## 🎯 Key Points

- Andriy Voronin strongly criticized the leadership of Ukrainian football following the national team's poor Nations League campaign.
- After four matches under Andrea Maldera, the team earned 4 points and sits third in Group B2.
- The ex-player stated there is a lack of high-class players and pointed to systemic personnel errors at the highest level.

Former Ukraine national team striker Andriy Voronin has issued extremely harsh criticism against the management of domestic football and the national team. The reason for these sharp statements was the unconvincing results of the Ukrainian national team in the current UEFA Nations League campaign under the coaching staff led by Andrea Maldera. After four rounds played in Group B2, the team has earned only four points, placing third in the standings, which sparked a storm of criticism from fans, experts, and sports veterans.

### The Essence of the Crisis and Standings

Within the group stage of the Nations League, the Ukrainian national team has demonstrated unstable and alarming results. The team managed a narrow victory over Hungary (1:0) and a draw against Georgia (0:0), but suffered painful defeats against Northern Ireland (0:3) and Hungary again (1:2). Such figures have put the team's tournament prospects at risk, and November matches against Northern Ireland and Georgia are now of crucial importance for maintaining their position.

### Andriy Voronin's Emotional Reaction

Former Bayer Leverkusen, Liverpool, and Ukraine national team forward Andriy Voronin did not mince words when commenting on the current situation to the outlet "Ukrainskyi Futbol". By his own admission, watching the team's matches today is simply shameful. In his emotional speech, the ex-footballer openly questioned the competence of those who make key decisions in Ukrainian football, calling the current situation a systemic failure.

### Systemic Problems and Personnel Errors

Voronin emphasized that the current third place in the group and the overall uncompetitiveness of the national team are a natural consequence of many years of personnel errors at the highest level. In his opinion, professional criteria have been ignored in Ukrainian football for years, entrusting leadership positions to random people. The former player urged everyone to take off their rose-colored glasses, soberly assess the country's personnel potential, and admit that today the national team lacks both high-class players and qualified coaches.

### Team Prospects in the Nations League

Despite the deep crisis and a flurry of criticism in the press, the Ukrainian national team has to finish the group stage of the Nations League in the autumn. On November 14, the team faces a difficult away match against Northern Ireland, and on November 17, Maldera's charges will play a nominally home fixture against the Georgian national team. These two games will answer whether the national team can avoid relegation and at least partially rehabilitate itself for the failed start of the tournament.
