# Virtual Hangar: VR Simulator for D-30 Howitzer Maintenance Launched in Ukraine

Ukraine has unveiled a unique VR simulator designed to train personnel in the full cycle of military equipment maintenance. Unlike conventional shooting simulators, this new system focuses on a critical phase of weapon operation — preparing artillery systems for combat. The innovation was presented at an event hosted by L7 Simulators.

### Technology Instead of Real Parts

The development, titled "D-30 122mm Howitzer Simulator," allows cadets to virtually disassemble, inspect mechanisms, and reassemble the legendary howitzer. The training takes place in an immersive virtual hangar. Cadets wear standalone VR headsets and interact with a detailed 3D model of the gun using an adaptive tool table.

The learning process is fully controlled by an instructor. A specialist launches scenarios via a computer or laptop, tracks the trainee's actions in real-time, and records exam results. The software operates autonomously over a local network, eliminating the need for a constant internet connection and ensuring data security.

### Training Scenarios and Modes

The software package includes four training modules and approximately 10 practical scenarios. Each scenario offers three operating modes:

- Training mode with step-by-step hints for beginners.

- Exam mode with time limits.

- Free practice mode with no restrictions.

### Accuracy Down to the Millimeter

Ihor Belov, founder of the L7 Simulators ecosystem, explained the choice of the D-30 howitzer as the first object for simulation. According to him, numerous blueprints with real dimensions are available for this type of artillery, allowing for the creation of a maximally accurate digital copy.

The development team drew the model by hand and then visited training centers where real guns are physically located. There, specialists compared the details of the virtual model with the actual hardware to eliminate any inaccuracies. Afterward, the simulator was handed over to the educational institution for testing to identify any potential flaws.

### Project Scalability

Ihor Belov noted that the current version of the simulator is not final and will be refined during operation. However, the D-30 is just an example. The developed methodology allows the project to be scaled to other types of complex military equipment and weaponry.

"Previously, VR was associated mainly with shooting simulators or drone control. Our trainer focuses on another, critically important link — quality maintenance. We are demonstrating the capabilities of this approach using the D-30 howitzer as an example, but it is scalable to other models on an industrial scale," emphasized the company founder.
