# War Budget: Koretsky Asks Ambassadors for 2026 Funding Due to Frontline Realities

The situation on the front line is dictating new conditions for the Ukrainian economy. The country's government has decided to update the state budget by the end of the current year and adjust the financial plan for 2027. The main driver of these changes is the need for additional funding for the Defense Forces in 2026.

Prime Minister Serhiy Koretsky made a corresponding statement during a meeting with ambassadors of foreign states. As reported by RBK-Ukraine citing Interfax-Ukraine, the head of the government acknowledged that the basic need for external financial support for the next year has already been secured. However, the current situation requires an expansion of these volumes.

### Combat Realities and General Staff Decisions

Koretsky detailed the reasons for the revision of plans. According to him, after meetings with the Acting Minister of Defense Serhiy Khmara, the Minister of Internal Affairs, and a broad representation of the Defense Forces command, an additional need for resources was identified.

"This need is caused by realities on the battlefield," the Prime Minister emphasized. He added that the decision on additional funding was made at the level of the General Staff of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief. It is this verdict that requires the government to urgently adapt budget plans by the end of 2026 and formulate a strategy for 2027.

To implement these ambitious plans, the government will require active support from the diplomatic corps. Koretsky directly appealed to the ambassadors to assist in securing additional funds for the country's defense.

### Frozen Assets and the Energy Crisis

A separate item on the agenda highlighted by the Prime Minister was the issue of using frozen Russian sovereign assets. Koretsky identified their use as a key task for financing both defense needs and the restoration of Ukrainian infrastructure.

Financial challenges are not limited to the military sector alone. Earlier, Serhiy Koretsky had announced large-scale reforms in the structure of public administration, planned back in July. At that time, he instructed to strengthen coordination between agencies and tighten control over the implementation of Cabinet of Ministers decisions.

The issue of preparation for winter remains relevant. Recently, the Prime Minister voiced a worrying figure: Ukraine's energy sector, before the start of the heating season, is facing an unmet need of about 650 million euros. These figures highlight the scale of financial tasks facing the government in the context of the ongoing conflict.
