# Water in Kyiv may become more expensive: Kyivvodokanal justifies tariff increase with the war

Residents of the Ukrainian capital may face a significant increase in utility bills. Kyiv is planning to review the cost of centralized water supply and wastewater services. According to the latest data, the total tariff could rise by more than 50 hryvnias per cubic meter.

This information was confirmed by Kyivvodokanal in response to a request from RBC-Ukraine journalists. The enterprise has already prepared calculations and submitted them to the city authorities for consideration.

### How much will have to be paid for water

If the city authorities approve the proposals of the utility company, the cost of services for the population will change radically. According to calculations, tariffs will increase by 58.52 hryvnias per cubic meter. As a result, the price of water in the capital will be 88.90 hryvnias.

Specialists at Kyivvodokanal emphasize that reviewing the tariff to an economically justified level is a forced measure. In the official response to the company's request, they indicated that the goal of the increase is not to increase payments for profit.

"Its goal is to ensure the stable operation of the water supply and wastewater system of the capital under war conditions and constant risks to critical infrastructure," the company's statement says.

### National trend towards increase

The situation in Kyiv is not isolated. Since July 1, there has been an active review of water supply and wastewater tariffs throughout Ukraine. In a number of regions, prices have already increased many times.

High tariffs were set in Uman, Pavlohrad, and Berdychiv. Vinnytsia was marked by a particularly sharp jump, where water prices tripled immediately. Today it became known that Lviv also plans to raise tariffs. The local city hall explains the need for a review by the rising cost of electricity, increased employee salaries, and increased tax contributions.

All water utilities in the country must provide calculations of new tariffs to local authorities by August 20. Thus, Ukrainians can expect a wave of utility bill increases in the coming month.
