# Water Prices to Rise: Odesa Prepares Tariff Hike with Transparency Condition

A significant change in the sphere of public utilities is brewing in Odesa. Today, July 23, the executive committee of the Odesa City Council will hold a meeting, the main topic of which will be the revision of tariffs for water supply and sewage. The issue, concerning every resident of the city, will be considered at the official level; however, authorities emphasize that the decision must be balanced and economically justified.

### Conditions for Price Increases

Sergei Lysak, Head of the Odesa City Military Administration (CMA), commenting on the upcoming decision, pointed out a number of critically important conditions. According to him, a review of water costs is impossible without bringing order to the activities of the local monopoly enterprise — "Infoks Vodokanal".

The authorities demand full transparency: city services must gain access to a re-evaluation of the cost of the enterprise's entire property complex. Additionally, a strict audit of the rental rate charged to the utility company is planned, in strict accordance with the Odesa City Council decision adopted in 2025.

"People must understand what they are paying for. And the city must use all legal mechanisms to protect their interests," emphasized the head of the CMA.

### Where Additional Funds Will Go

The Odesa administration sees the tariff revision not just as a way to cover expenses, but as a tool for social protection. Additional funds attracted by bringing order to the activities of "Infoks Vodokanal" are planned to be directed to support socially vulnerable layers of the population. This will allow for the compensation of price increases for those who need it most.

### General Context: Tariff Fever in Ukraine

The situation in Odesa is part of a nationwide trend. Since July 2025, a large-scale review of water prices has begun across Ukraine. The Ministry of Communities and Territories Development has set a strict deadline: by August 20, all water utilities must provide calculations of new tariffs.

The results are already felt in many regions. In some cities, the cost of water has doubled or even tripled. The leaders in the rate of price increase are Uman, Pavlohrad, and Berdychiv. In Vinnytsia, the price of the service jumped threefold at once.

### The Kyiv Example

Even in the capital, where tariffs have traditionally been lower, changes are inevitable. In Kyiv, a new cost for centralized water supply and sewage services was agreed upon — 63.79 hryvnias per cubic meter. Notably, the final amount turned out to be lower than what "Kyivvodokanal" initially proposed, indicating strict control by the regulators.
