# Why Humans Cannot Live Forever: Russian Scientists Name the Hard Limit of Human Life

The human dream of immortality and victory over aging may encounter an insurmountable biological barrier. Even if future medicine learns to completely eliminate all known causes of aging, the maximum lifespan will likely remain strictly limited. This is the conclusion reached by Russian scientists who published the results of their study in the authoritative journal NPJ Ageing.

### The Ideal Future Scenario

The authors of the study attempted to model a nearly utopian scenario for the development of medicine. In this hypothetical reality, science completely defeats the main mechanisms of aging: chronic inflammation, mitochondrial dysfunction, the accumulation of "zombie cells," and other age-related changes that currently destroy the body.

However, even in such an "ideal" world, one critical factor remains that medicine cannot completely eliminate — somatic mutations. These are random DNA damages that accumulate in cells throughout a person's life.

### The Mathematics of Organ Wear

Researchers created a complex mathematical model to calculate how different organs would wear out under the influence of these genetic errors. The results were discouraging for dreamers of eternal life:

- **The heart and brain** turned out to be the most vulnerable. It is precisely these organs that suffer most from the accumulation of mutations, making them the weak link in the chain of longevity.

- **The liver**, on the contrary, showed high resistance. Thanks to its ability to constantly renew cells, it withstands such damage significantly better than other body systems.

### A Hard Limit of 200 Years

According to calculations, even assuming victory over most diseases and aging mechanisms, the average maximum lifespan would be between 146 and 194 years. In other words, future medicine could approximately double the current human resource, but overcoming the 200-year mark would be extremely difficult.

The authors themselves emphasize that this is a theoretical model. It does not guarantee that people will actually be able to live to two centuries, but it makes it clear: even under ideal conditions, DNA damage will likely remain the main limiter of human life.
