The Pension Fund of Ukraine has issued an important reminder for older citizens who combine pension payments with employment or business activities. As department specialists note, certain types of allowances and targeted pension increases are legally designated exclusively for non-working pensioners. Official employment or official registration as a sole proprietor automatically deprives a citizen of the right to receive such specialized additional payments, requiring careful attention to their status.

### Essence of Restrictions and Overpayment Risks

It is important to emphasize that this is not about the complete cancellation of pension provisions or basic payments. Only those allowances whose assignment is conditioned on the absence of official work are under threat of reduction.  Legislation obliges every pensioner within 10 days from the moment of employment or business registration to independently notify the Pension Fund authorities. If the relevant information is not provided on time, an overpayment of funds will occur, which will later have to be returned to the state.

### Recalculation Procedure and Feedback

A similar procedure applies in a mirror situation: upon termination of employment activities, a citizen acquires the legal right to claim lost allowances again. In this case, Fund specialists are obliged to revise the amount of pension provision upwards after submitting the appropriate application and supporting documents. ### Innovations and Related Payments

It is worth recalling that other important changes are also taking place in pension legislation. In particular, starting October 22, 2026, additional requirements for the assignment and payment of pensions are being canceled for pensioners with the status of internally displaced persons (IDPs), so that the status of a displaced person can no longer serve as a basis for restrictions. In addition, in the event of the death of a pensioner who had special merits to Ukraine, disabled members of his family can expect to receive a part of the corresponding allowance in the amount of 70% to 90%.

Discussions periodically arise in the expert community and media regarding the transparency of automated data exchange procedures between tax authorities and the Pension Fund. Some experts point out that modern digital registers should independently record the fact of citizens' employment, relieving elderly people of the burden of bureaucratic reporting. However, PFU representatives insist on the personal responsibility of pensioners for untimely information, citing current legislation, which creates legal conflicts when unintentional overpayments occur.
