# X launches video editor: battle for original content against bots and pirates

Social network X (formerly Twitter) has taken a significant step towards becoming a full-fledged video platform. The company has introduced updated functionality that will allow users to record and edit videos directly within the app. The initiative, announced by X's Head of Product Nikita Bier, aims to provide creators with tools to produce unique content, although experts doubt that technical innovations will solve the platform's systemic problems.

### New tools for content creators

The latest update brings to X features that were previously available only in specialized editing software. Nikita Bier's main goal is to create an environment where videos are unique, rather than simply copied from TikTok or YouTube.

Among the key features of the new editor are:

- **Multilingual subtitles:** Users will be able to overlay text captions in multiple languages simultaneously, fully customizing their appearance—from font choice to color and size.

- **"Green Screen" function (Chroma Key):** Creators will have the ability to use any images from their smartphone gallery or even other posts within the X social network itself as a background.

According to developers, these tools are designed to combat the influx of stolen material. Bier noted that today, many popular accounts on the social network exist thanks to other people's content, which gathers millions of views years after the original release.

### The problem of monetization and copyright

Despite the launch of the editor, analysts remain skeptical. The presence of technical tools alone will not solve the problem of plagiarism, as creators go where a stable income is guaranteed. Unlike Meta, TikTok, and YouTube, which have developed ecosystems with regular payouts, X still cannot offer creators similar conditions.

The situation is exacerbated by the complete absence of a built-in copyright protection system. While in Meta, owners of original Reels can automatically block stolen videos or redirect ad revenue to their accounts, and YouTube uses precise algorithms to find duplicates, in X, creators are forced to tolerate piracy. Furthermore, the platform's development is hindered by public conflicts between management and top bloggers, including the most popular YouTuber, MrBeast.

### Battle with bots

The main obstacle to the development of original content remains bots. They not only artificially inflate views but also mass-scrape (download) unique videos for re-uploading to spam accounts.

The scale of the problem is staggering: according to developers, X's security systems currently detect and block an average of 208 bots per minute, and this figure is constantly growing. As a result, half of the product development team is forced to focus exclusively on combating spam rather than developing new features.

For now, the new video editor is available only for users of mobile devices running iOS, as the Android app is currently being rebuilt from scratch.
