# Yaroslava Mahuchikh returns to the Ukrainian Summer Championships and clears two meters

Lviv became the venue for the main sporting event of the season in Ukrainian athletics. The world-class star and world record holder in high jump, Yaroslava Mahuchikh, returned to the national summer championships. For our titled athlete, this was her first appearance in the sector of the national outdoor championship in the last five years.

### Flawless assault on the two-meter height

Mahuchikh approached the tournament as the absolute favorite. The champion's strategy was calculated: she consciously skipped the initial attempts while the other participants began the fight from the 1.60 m mark. Yaroslava only entered the sector when the bar was raised to 1.87 m.

The athlete cleared heights of 1.87 m and 1.93 m on the first try without any problems. However, having secured the gold medal, Mahuchikh did not stop at what she had achieved and decided to assault the two-meter height.

The path to this result was not simple. The first two attempts were unsuccessful, and the bar fell. But on the third try, the titled athlete made a flawless jump and cleared a height of 2.00 m. This is the best result of the Ukrainian star in the summer part of the 2026 season.

### Return of rivals and the fight for medals

The main competition for the champion was Irina Gerashchenko. For her, this Ukrainian championship became the first start in the last two years. The athlete completely missed the previous season due to pregnancy and childbirth.

Despite a long break, Gerashchenko demonstrated excellent form. She confidently cleared a height of 1.87 m and won the silver medal. The tournament bronze was won by Liliya Klintsova from the Kharkiv region, who stopped at the 1.79 m mark.

### Importance of the tournament for the national team

The national championship in Lviv has strategic significance for the formation of the national team roster. These competitions became an important stage of preparation for the European Athletics Championships, which will take place in the United Kingdom from August 10 to 16.
