# Youth in the Ukrainian Labor Market: Wage Growth, Staff Shortages, and New Vacancies for Students

![Job interview with a young candidate: salary growth and labor shortage in Ukraine](https://xab.info/media/2026/07/29/molodezh-na-rynke-truda-ukrainy-rost-zarplat-defitsit-kadrov-i-novye-vakansii-dlya-studentov/molodezh-na-rynke-truda-ukrainy-rost-zarplat-defitsit-kadrov-i-novye-vakansii-dlya-studentov-1.webp)

The Ukrainian labor market is showing significant changes: employers are increasingly turning their attention to young people, opening vacancies for students and candidates under 18. Demand is particularly high in the sectors of retail, logistics, construction, and the hospitality industry. At the same time, salaries for popular positions have risen significantly over the past year.

### Retail — the leader in the number of vacancies

According to an OLX Job study, the largest number of offers for young specialists is concentrated in retail trade, sales, and procurement. The position of salesperson became the leader in terms of the number of vacancies: over the year, the number of such ads increased by 12%, and the median salary reached 25,350 hryvnias.

### Growing demand in other industries

High interest in young workers is also observed in logistics, delivery, and construction. In particular, employers are offering vacancies for:

- loaders — growth of 34%;

- construction workers — 25%;

- general laborers — 19%.

In the summer season, demand for personnel in the hospitality industry traditionally increases. Young candidates are offered positions as waiters, baristas, kitchen assistants, and other roles.

### Regional differences

The Kyiv region remains the most active region in terms of the number of vacancies for young people. However, compared to last year, the number of offers here has hardly changed (-1%).

A significant growth in vacancies was recorded in the Chernihiv, Ternopil, and Mykolaiv regions — by 13%. At the same time, the number of offers decreased in the Sumy (-28%), Poltava (-20%), and Dnipropetrovsk (-20%) regions.

### Salaries are rising along with staff shortages

Employers are not only expanding their search for young employees but also increasing their salaries. For example:

- assemblers — +25%, up to 28,469 hryvnias;

- plasterers — +24%, up to 80,500 hryvnias;

- warehouse keepers — +16%, up to 29,000 hryvnias.

Experts link this trend to a staff shortage, which has intensified due to the full-scale war, mobilization, and the outflow of part of the population abroad.

### Business is ready to hire without experience

According to a joint study by OLX Job and the European Business Association (EBA), 50% of employers are ready to hire candidates without work experience, and another 37% — young specialists with subsequent training. This confirms that youth employment is becoming an important tool for overcoming personnel shortages.

### Support for youth in job search

Previously, RBK-Ukraine reported on support measures that young Ukrainians can receive when looking for their first job. State programs, retraining courses, and simplified requirements for candidates help lower the barrier to entry into the labor market.
