Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that earlier this week, he officially proposed a personal meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin. The initiative aimed to discuss ending the full-scale war, but the Kremlin once again ignored the call for dialogue.

### Proposal for a Meeting on the Margins of the G7 Summit

According to statements by the Ukrainian leader, the meeting could have taken place during the "G7" summit in France, scheduled for June 15–17. Zelensky emphasized that the format of the event created unique conditions for negotiations: French President Emmanuel Macron and former US President Donald Trump were expected to attend, allowing for a discussion involving key players — representatives from Europe and America.

"We conveyed the message that we are ready to meet with Putin during the G7 summit, since Trump and Macron will be there, meaning Europeans and Americans. This is a good, in my opinion, a very good opportunity to meet all together," Zelensky noted.

### Russia's Reaction and the West's Position

Europe and the US, according to the Ukrainian president, supported the idea of negotiations. However, Russia, as before, demonstrated unwillingness to engage in dialogue. Earlier, on June 4, Zelensky published an open letter to Putin proposing a meeting in a third country to reach agreements on a lasting peace. The President's Office understood that Moscow's response was unlikely to be constructive, but the appeal was addressed not only to the Kremlin but also to Russian elites and international partners.

In response, Putin criticized the initiative, calling the tone of the letter "rude," and rejected the idea of personal negotiations, stating that he "sees no point in it."

### Consequences of Refusing Negotiations

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha commented on the situation, noting that Putin is missing a chance to exit a war that, in his words, is failing. He also warned that international pressure on Russia will only intensify in the future.

Thus, despite Kyiv's active attempts to initiate peace negotiations, Russia continues to maintain a hardline stance, refusing any form of dialogue, even in the presence of international support and a favorable format for a meeting.
