# Zelenskyy: Belarus is building military infrastructure near the Ukrainian border under Russian pressure

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the Republic of Belarus, under clear Russian influence, is actively constructing military infrastructure in close proximity to the Ukrainian border. According to the head of state, clear signals have already been sent to Minsk regarding the necessity of halting these works.

### Infrastructure for aggression

The details of the situation were outlined by Oleksandr Lohovsky, acting head of Ukraine's Foreign Intelligence Service, in a briefing to the President. Zelenskyy emphasized that the Belarusian side is implementing measures aimed at preparing for a potential expansion of aggression against Ukraine.

According to the data received, the construction of specialized roads, as well as bases for storing ammunition and fuel and lubricants, is nearing completion along the border. The President noted that these facilities have no purpose other than military.

"We know that in Russian documents, this is described specifically in the context of the tasks of the so-called 'SVO' [Special Military Operation]," added Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

### Call for de-escalation

Kyiv has already notified Minsk of the inadmissibility of such activities. Zelenskyy pointed out that Belarus has received signals not only regarding the construction of infrastructure but also concerning other formats of cooperation with Russia aimed at prolonging or scaling up the war.

"Belarus knows what steps are needed on its part for peace. The development of border aggression infrastructure by Belarus must be stopped. Steps aimed at de-escalation and peace must be taken by the Belarusian side," stated the Ukrainian leader.

### Contrasting statements

Zelenskyy's statement came against the backdrop of words from the self-proclaimed President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko. Earlier, he claimed to have met with representatives of the Ukrainian president and stated that he did not want Belarusians to fight against Ukrainians. Lukashenko also spoke about the need to negotiate.

However, actions on the ground contradict these words. Back in May, Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned that Russia was considering scenarios for conducting operations from Belarusian territory, including an offensive on Ukrainian territory from the north.
