# Refueling Ban: Zhytomyr Region Introduces Strict Measures Following Gas Station Attack

Unprecedented restrictions have been introduced for the fuel sector in the Zhytomyr region. Due to the growing security threats and recent attacks on critical infrastructure, regional authorities have decided to completely ban the operation of gas stations (GS) during air raid alerts.

The new regulation applies to the territory of the Korosten district. The corresponding order was signed by the head of the Zhytomyr Regional Military Administration (RMA), Vitaliy Bunechko. The document obliges all gas stations in the specified district to immediately cease operations upon hearing the siren and direct personnel and visitors to the nearest shelters.

### Reason for the decision: strikes on fuel infrastructure

The decision to introduce the ban was a reaction to specific events. In the early morning hours, Russian forces struck a gas station in the Malyn community. As a result of the attack, two people were injured and urgently hospitalized. According to authorities, the condition of one of the wounded is assessed as severe.

Vitaliy Bunechko emphasized that strikes on fuel facilities in the northern part of the region indicate an increased danger. In his statement, the head of the RMA noted that the lives and health of residents are the highest priority, which dictates the need for strict security measures.

### Operating mode and evacuation

According to the new order, from the moment an air raid alert is introduced, all gas stations in the Korosten district must:

    - Stop refueling vehicles.

    - Take measures to evacuate employees.

    - Ensure the safe evacuation of visitors to shelters.

This measure is aimed at minimizing the risk to people in areas that may become targets for missile strikes or drone attacks.

### Context: changes in the operation of gas station networks

The situation in the Zhytomyr region fits into the general picture of tightening safety rules in the fuel market of Ukraine. Earlier, as of July 1, 2026, the large network of gas stations WOG switched to a special operating mode in seven regions of the country. Due to security threats, gas stations of this network ceased operations at night.

The government is also actively working on infrastructure protection issues. Former Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko stated that the Cabinet of Ministers is developing mechanisms to protect gas stations and ensure uninterrupted fuel supplies to frontline regions, however, the priority remains the safety of citizens.
