The night of May 27 became another test for Ukraine's air defense system. The Russians launched a large-scale air attack, firing 163 combat drones at Ukrainian territory. Among them were dangerous jet-powered models capable of causing significant damage to critical infrastructure.
Scale of the Attack and Launch Directions
The enemy began the operation at 18:00 on May 26. Drones were launched simultaneously from several directions: Kursk, Bryansk, Orel, as well as from the occupied territories of Millerovo and Shatalovo. This tactic aims to overload air defense systems, forcing them to operate at the limit of their capabilities.
Effectiveness of Repelling the Strike
Preliminary data indicates that by 08:30 in the morning, air defense forces successfully destroyed or suppressed 150 enemy drones. All available means were involved in repelling the attack: aviation, surface-to-air missile systems, electronic warfare units, and mobile fire groups. Most threats were neutralized in the north, south, and east of the country.
Consequences and Threats
Despite the defenders' success, the consequences of the attack are inevitable. Eight drone hits were recorded in seven locations. Debris from downed UAVs fell on four other objects. The Air Force warns that several enemy drones are still in Ukrainian airspace, so the alarm has not been fully lifted.
Hotspots: Chernihiv and Dnipropetrovsk Region
The situation was particularly acute in Chernihiv. The city suffered a massive strike, during which about 15 explosions were heard. As a result of the attack, a local enterprise was damaged. No less intense combat operations were observed in the Dnipropetrovsk region: the Nikopol and Synelnykove districts were attacked almost 20 times. The enemy used a combined strike: drones, artillery, and aerial bombs. As a result, six people were injured, a fire broke out, and civilian cars were destroyed.
