The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) has lost external power supply for the 17th time. The cause was a drone attack on the Nikopol substation, located on the opposite bank of the Dnipro River. The incident once again puts the nuclear safety of the facility at risk.

According to the IAEA, published on social media platform X, the strike on the substation led to a temporary disconnection of the plant's only external power line. Immediately after the failure, emergency diesel generators automatically started, ensuring the operation of ZNPP until power supply was restored.

Shortly before midnight, the line was restored, and the generators were shut down. IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi called this incident another confirmation of the constant threats to nuclear safety in wartime conditions. He emphasized the need for military restraint to prevent the risk of a nuclear accident.

IAEA Inspectors Work Under Combat Conditions

Previously, IAEA inspectors had already visited ZNPP following claims by occupiers about damage to the facility. During the inspection, they recorded normal radiation levels. However, while working, the teams had to take cover due to the sounds of drones and shooting near the plant.

Fakes as a Tool of Propaganda

ISW (Institute for the Study of War) revealed Russia's true goal in spreading fakes about ZNPP. According to experts, the Kremlin systematically invents accusations of 'Ukrainian strikes' to justify its own mass attacks deep into Ukraine. This confirms that the information war around ZNPP has become part of a general strategy.

The situation around ZNPP remains extremely tense. Each new incident reminds us how fragile nuclear safety can be in the conditions of an armed conflict. The international community calls on the parties to exercise maximum restraint and comply with international norms.
