The night of June 7 marked a time of massive aerial invasion for Ukraine. The Russian side launched an unprecedented attack, deploying 236 strike drones. Ukraine's air defense forces repelled the strike, shooting down the overwhelming majority of targets; however, incidents involving hits and falling debris were still recorded.
Scale and types of drones used
According to data from the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, cited by RBC-Ukraine, enemy drones launched from several directions: Bryansk, Kursk, Millerovo, Orel, Primorsko-Akhtarsk in Russia, as well as from the occupied territory of the Donetsk region.
The enemy's arsenal included various drone models, including:
- Shahed-type drones;
- "Gerbera" drones;
- "Italmas" UAVs;
- "Parody" type decoy drones.
How the attack was repelled
The defense of Ukraine's airspace that night was carried out by aviation forces, air defense missile troops, electronic warfare (EW) units, and mobile fire groups. Own unmanned systems were also actively used.
As of 08:30 AM, it was confirmed that air defenses had shot down or suppressed 215 enemy drones. Successful interceptions were recorded in the north, south, and east of the country.
Consequences of the strikes
Despite the high efficiency of the air defense operations, it was not possible to completely avoid incidents. There were 17 hits by strike drones recorded at 13 different locations. Additionally, falling debris from shot-down drones was recorded at 9 locations.
The Air Force of Ukraine warned that the attack is ongoing and that enemy drones are still present in the airspace. Citizens are strongly advised to follow safety rules.
Situation in the regions
Particular consequences were recorded in Zaporizhzhia. During the night of June 7 and into the morning, the city was subjected to attacks, resulting in a partial blackout and power supply disruptions.
The situation remains tense in other regions as well. In the Sumy region, Russian troops struck energy infrastructure, gas stations, and postal transport, resulting in casualties.
Separately, an incident in the Black Sea should be noted. On Saturday, June 6, occupiers attacked two civilian search and rescue vessels carrying out a humanitarian mission. As a result of the shelling, there are casualties.
