28 ballistic missiles: Yuriy Ignat reveals details of the unprecedented attack on Kyiv and the main problem of the Air Defense

During the night of July 2, the capital of Ukraine experienced one of the largest attacks in the entire history of the war. According to the Air Force, Russia used an unprecedented amount of high-precision weaponry, including 28 ballistic missiles. This was reported by Yuriy Ignat, Head of the Communications Department of the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, on the air of the program «Ranok.LIVЕ».

Ballistic threat and challenge for Air Defense

According to Ignat, the use of ballistic missiles became the key feature of the strike. The enemy's arsenal included Iskander-M missiles, hypersonic Zircon missiles, as well as S-400 surface-to-air missiles, which Russian troops are using to strike ground targets.

The officer emphasized the critical nature of the situation: intercepting ballistic missiles remains the most difficult challenge for the Ukrainian air defense system. In his words, only Patriot surface-to-air missile systems are capable of effectively shooting down such targets.

At the same time, the situation with other types of weaponry looks different. The effectiveness of destroying cruise missiles by Ukrainian air defense remains at nearly 100%, and for unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) — more than 90%.

Scale of the attack and losses

In total, 570 air attack weapons were recorded during the night of July 2. This figure included 496 strike drones and 74 missiles of various types. The enemy used weapons based in the air, on land, and at sea, concentrating the main strike on Kyiv.

As a result of the attack, massive destruction of civilian infrastructure was recorded in seven districts of the capital. The State Emergency Service released footage of extinguishing fires in residential high-rise buildings, private housing, and warehouses. In particular, a three-story building — an ambulance station — caught fire in the Shevchenkivskyi district.

At the moment, there is information about more than 30 locations with damage and destruction in all districts of the city. There are significant direct hits on residential buildings. According to the latest data, the number of dead has exceeded 10 people, and about 90 were injured. Rescuers continue to search for people under the rubble.
