The Government of Ukraine has allocated an additional 3.5 billion hryvnias from the reserve fund of the state budget for the urgent repair of local roads. This decision, announced by Prime Minister Yulia Sviridenko, aims to address one of the key tasks of the current stage — ensuring uninterrupted logistics for both the civilian population and the Defense Forces.

Strategic importance of the road network

According to the head of the government, the restoration of local roads has become a strategic priority. The allocated funds will be distributed among all regions of the country, but not for abstract needs. Financing is provided on a co-financing basis from local budgets and will be directed exclusively to specific, most damaged road sections.

Sviridenko emphasized the dual purpose of these investments:

  • For citizens: Road repairs directly affect the safety of residents, ensuring fast and reliable access to hospitals, maternity wards, and schools.
  • For the front: The condition of the road network is critical for the Defense Forces. The quality of the pavement affects the speed of evacuating the wounded, logistics efficiency, and the stability of supplying military units.

Results of the winter campaign and new priorities

Earlier, the country successfully completed the priority elimination of post-winter potholes on roads of national and international importance. According to the government, 14 million m² of road surface was renewed. This is an unprecedented figure and the highest volume of planned repairs during the entire period of the full-scale invasion.

Now, the focus of road workers is shifting to frontline regions. The main goal is to ensure a reliable transport artery for military needs and humanitarian evacuation.

Strategic infrastructure objects

Alongside repairs, Ukraine continues to put key transport facilities into operation. In early June, the Northern bypass of Rivne was officially opened — a long-awaited transport artery 14.5 km long.

The new highway is designed to solve several important tasks: relieve the city of transit traffic, improve inter-regional communication, and provide drivers with a significantly faster exit to the international highway "Kyiv — Chop" and three key border crossing points on the Ukrainian-Polish border.
