300,000 Hryvnia for Service: How the Recruitment of Foreign Volunteers in Ukraine Will Change

On July 3, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved fundamental changes to the system of recruiting and supporting foreign volunteers. These steps are part of a large-scale recruitment reform aimed at systematizing the process of foreigners joining the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).

As reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing a statement by Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, the ministry has developed a unified algorithm of action for citizens of other countries and stateless persons who wish to voluntarily defend Ukraine. The goal of the reform is not just the formalization of processes, but the creation of a transparent mechanism that will allow for the scaling of fighter recruitment and, consequently, the strengthening of combat units.

Financial Incentive: 300,000 Hryvnia

One of the key innovations was the approval of the payment amount for foreign military personnel. The Cabinet of Ministers set the sum at 300,000 hryvnia. According to government representatives, this financial incentive is intended to make service in the International Legion more attractive to motivated candidates from around the world.

Mykhailo Fedorov emphasized that foreign volunteers are already an important part of the country's defense forces. According to him, the new rules will provide more opportunities to attract people while maintaining unified and clear standards.

Logistics "A to Z" and the Private Sector

The government has approved a detailed procedure for the logistics of foreign volunteers, covering the entire path of a candidate—from the moment of the decision to serve to arrival in the area of responsibility. Now, the recruitment process will follow a clear scenario, eliminating the chaos of previous periods.

An important aspect of the reform is the opening of the recruitment market to private companies. Ukraine plans to delegate the functions of searching and preliminary selection of volunteers in other countries to specialized agencies. This will allow part of the organizational work to be transferred to professionals and accelerate the process of unit staffing.

The Ministry of Defense sees these changes as a way to save the lives of Ukrainian military personnel by systematically strengthening combat groups with qualified foreign specialists.
