Testing of the fifth-generation (5G) network has launched in Kyiv. This event marks a new stage in the development of Ukraine's digital infrastructure. However, the launch of the technology is accompanied by many questions: will the quality of communication change, will prices rise, and what specific benefits will the average subscriber receive?
Tariffs will not rise automatically
One of the main fears of users when implementing new technologies is the increase in the cost of services. Stanislav Prybytko, Deputy Minister of Digital Transformation for the development of digital infrastructure, gave a clear answer to this question in an interview with RBC-Ukraine. According to him, the launch of the 5G network will not entail an automatic increase in mobile communication tariffs."The Ministry of Digital Transformation does not influence the formation of tariffs by mobile operators, however, together with mobile operators, we have repeatedly said this — the launch of 5G does not mean an automatic increase in tariffs," the official emphasized.
Users will be able to connect to the new high-speed network within the framework of their existing tariff plans. This means that access to future technologies will become available without the need to conclude new, more expensive contracts.
Real advantages of the technology
The implementation of 5G is not just a marketing ploy, but a significant improvement in the quality of communication. The main advantage of the new network will be a significantly higher data transfer speed. Under 5G conditions, downloading large files will take seconds, and video content will open almost instantly, without the usual buffering.In addition to speed, the new technology provides a critically important characteristic — lower signal latency (low latency). The device will exchange data with the network faster. This is especially important for sectors working in real-time:
- Online games, where every millisecond counts;
- Virtual and augmented reality services;
- Remote operations and Internet of Things technologies.
Network stability and capacity
Stanislav Prybytko also drew attention to the network's ability to serve densely populated areas. "Also, 5G allows providing quality communication to many more devices per square meter than 4G," he noted.This solves the problem of "clogged" internet in shopping centers, stadiums, or in the centers of large cities. For most users, switching to 5G simply means faster, more comfortable, and more stable mobile internet.
