The night attack on Ukraine became one of the largest in recent times. According to Air Force spokesperson Yuriy Ignat, the enemy used 419 air attack assets. The main blow fell on Kyiv, where the consequences of the attack turned out to be particularly severe.
Lack of Interceptors and Air Defense Vulnerability
The main news of the night was the admission by Ukrainian military: not a single ballistic missile heading for the capital was shot down. At the same time, the effectiveness of air defense against cruise missiles and drones remained high. According to Ignat, Ukrainian sky defenders destroyed 31 Kh-101 cruise missiles and six Kalibr missiles, as well as hundreds of unmanned aerial vehicles.
However, the enemy bet on ballistics, taking advantage of the critical shortage of interceptor missiles for 'Patriot' systems. Yuriy Ignat emphasized that the problem is not only in Ukraine, but in the world as a whole: stocks of interceptor missiles are depleted.
"There is a certain serious shortage in Ukraine, there is a serious shortage in the world of interceptor missiles," - stated the Air Force spokesperson. According to him, the result against cruise missiles was close to 100%, but ballistic targets proved to be significantly more difficult to intercept.
Massive Strike: Statistics and Consequences
As a result of the attack, the impact of 23 ballistic and six anti-ship missiles, as well as 18 strike drones, was recorded at 34 locations. Debris from destroyed targets fell at another 16 points. The enemy used not only ballistics, but also hypersonic missiles 'Zircon' and 'Onyx', some of which the air defense could not shoot down.
Preliminary data shows that Ukrainian defense destroyed or suppressed 363 out of 419 air targets. Nevertheless, gaps in the defense led to serious destruction in Kyiv.
Casualties and Destruction in the Capital
After the night attack, the number of casualties in Kyiv increased sharply. The city mayor reported 11 dead and 46 injured. Destruction was recorded in several districts of the capital. Photos from the scene show burnt-out cars, building ruins, and firefighters working to extinguish fires.
Zelenskyy's Warning and Diplomatic Aspect
Sky defenders noted that on the eve of the attack, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy publicly warned both Ukrainians and international partners of the threat. In his address, the head of state emphasized the need for the supply of 'Patriot' systems and missiles for them. This issue, according to Ignat, was also discussed at the diplomatic level.
"The President of Ukraine has already spoken publicly, as usual before such massive strikes, he addresses both Ukrainians and partners, mainly partners," - noted the Air Force spokesperson.

The night attack demonstrated the vulnerability of Ukrainian air defense against ballistic missiles and hypersonic complexes. The shortage of interceptors remains a critical problem that needs to be solved at the international level. At the same time, the high effectiveness of air defense against cruise missiles and drones shows that Ukrainian defense continues to adapt to new challenges.
