Former heavyweight world champion Alexander Usyk has officially refuted rumors about his political ambitions. The athlete assured that he does not intend to run for the post of President of Ukraine.
This is reported by Sport RBC.UA, citing a comment by Alexander Usyk to the press service of Zhytomyr's 'Polesye'.
Trust rating and reality
According to the latest data from the sociological group 'Rating', 5.9% of respondents would vote for Alexander Usyk in hypothetical presidential elections. With this figure, the athlete took fifth place among all potential candidates.
Usyk assured that the real level of his support could have been even higher if he had real intentions to enter politics.
"If I had such an opinion [to run for president, — ed.], I think more people would have voted for me. But I will not run for President of Ukraine," Alexander Usyk assured.
Full stop to discussions
Thus, the titled boxer put a full stop to discussions about his possible participation in the upcoming presidential race.
Alexander Usyk has previously said on more than one occasion that after his boxing career he might go into politics and run for president. At the same time, he also made opposite statements that politics does not interest him.
In 2024, the boxer spoke about a possible future appointment to the position of Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine. In his opinion, this position is not related to politics but is a managerial role.
