Anthropic has announced the release of a new research version of the Claude Duet AI application, capable of independently analyzing tasks, executing instructions, and continuing operation in the background. The service is positioned by developers as a proactive artificial intelligence that does not require constant separate user commands and targets professionals and small business owners.

Architecture and Autonomy of Claude Duet

The new service is built on the advanced Claude Opus 5.5 language model, allowing the algorithm to independently assess the urgency of various matters and structure the workflow. The primary technological feature of the application is that it runs inside a virtual machine equipped with its own browser. Thanks to this technical solution, users no longer need to keep their laptops or smartphones turned on to complete tasks.

To get started, users simply need to describe the task in a short text or voice message, after which the AI automatically selects the necessary tools and sequence of steps. To avoid exhausting plan limits too quickly, the agent checks connected user accounts every few hours.

Service Integration and Security

The platform supports integration with over 6,000 connectors and plugins, enabling it to find missed messages in Gmail or Slack, generate reminders for unpaid invoices in QuickBooks or Stripe, and manage Shopify stores. Additionally, the agent can prepare payrolls in Gusto, create LinkedIn posts, and process deals via DocuSign.

The developers have paid special attention to security by embedding a confidential information leak protection classifier into the system. The algorithm automatically blocks attempts to transmit sensitive data such as credit card numbers or state IDs. All key actions, including sending emails, making payments, or signing documents, require mandatory human approval.

Availability and Future Outlook

Currently, Claude Duet is available as a standalone application for iOS and Android mobile operating systems, as well as via the claude.ai web platform. Users with Pro and Max subscriptions located in the United States can access the new research version. To try out the proactive agent features, users must sign up for a waitlist.
