The first lap proved fatal for George Russell, who was forced to retire after a collision with his teammate Lewis Hamilton. This incident not only deprived the Briton of points but also seriously complicated Mercedes' position in the Constructors' Championship.
For Lewis Hamilton, the race also did not go perfectly. The Ferrari driver (according to the text) received a 5-second penalty. Moreover, his fate may be decided even after the finish: during the pit stop, Hamilton hit one of the mechanics. Despite Ferrari showing excellent form in the race, they failed to defeat the Italian junior. Kimi Antonelli demonstrated that his retirement at the previous stage did not undermine his confidence. Even after losing the lead during the race, he managed to regain first place and did not give it up until the very finish, proving his maturity and strategic thinking.
Heroes of the day and unexpected finishes
Special attention deserves the performance of Charles Leclerc from Ferrari. His race was so convincing that he received the honorary title of 'Driver of the Day'. No less impressive was Lando Norris's result. The McLaren driver started with a serious deficit — due to the replacement of power unit elements, he received a penalty and lost 10 positions on the starting grid. However, his skill allowed him to return to the top 10, finishing seventh.
Changes in the standings
The results in Spa led to significant changes in the Drivers' Championship. Lewis Hamilton overtook George Russell and took second place in the overall standings with 159 points. Russell, who scored no points due to retirement, remained in third place with 154 points. Kimi Antonelli, meanwhile, increased his gap over competitors, scoring 204 championship points.
In the Constructors' Championship, Mercedes retains the lead with 358 points. Ferrari managed to slightly close the gap thanks to the double finish of their drivers in the top 5, scoring 285 points. McLaren rounds out the top three with 195 points.
