Although official negotiations between the clubs have not yet begun, the Londoners are already preparing the ground for the first step. However, the path to the transfer lies through a serious obstacle: Aston Villa is categorically not intending to part with its key player. The club is aided by Rogers' current contract, which runs until 2031, giving the Birmingham side indisputable leverage in negotiations.
Against the backdrop of recent high-profile deals on the market, the price for the 23-year-old Englishman has risen significantly and now exceeds £100 million. Interest in the forward is being shown not only by the Gunners but also by other giants of European football: Manchester United, Chelsea, and PSG.
From Middlesbrough to England star
Last season, Rogers demonstrated phenomenal efficiency, scoring 14 goals and providing 11 assists in 55 matches. His rapid rise from a Middlesbrough player bought for £16 million to a full-fledged star of the England national team at the World Cup has caused a real stir in the transfer market.
Mikel Arteta sees the Englishman as the ideal reinforcement for the left flank of the attack, especially considering the departure of Leandro Trossard. Although Rogers has mostly made a name for himself as an attacking midfielder and even competed with Jude Bellingham for the number 10 spot in the national team, statistics confirm his versatility. About 45% of his playing time at Aston Villa was spent specifically in the left winger position.
