The tragic incident in the Polish town of Jarosław has taken an unexpected turn. A 31-year-old Ukrainian citizen, Ihor M., who was detained on suspicion of carrying out a violent attack at a local monastery, cannot currently be questioned by law enforcement agencies. According to Małgorzata Taciuch-Kurasiewicz, spokesperson for the District Prosecutor's Office in Przemyśl, specialized psychiatric experts have diagnosed him with severe mental abnormalities. Specifically, the man showed signs of an acute and multiform psychotic disorder, making any investigative actions involving him impossible at this stage.
Health condition and impossibility of investigative actions
According to supervisory officials, the suspect's current mental state is characterized by heightened psychotic symptoms, severe psychomotor agitation, confusion of thought, and a complete lack of logical connection in reasoning. Doctors insist on the urgent prescription of intensive antipsychotic treatment. Consequently, the detainee has been transferred under intensive medical supervision to a specialized psychiatric medical institution, where he is isolated and receiving necessary care under expert control.

A certain inconsistency has emerged in the information space regarding the procedural status of the detainee. Initial media sources, citing official law enforcement statements, reported that specific charges were brought and suspicion of priest murder, attempted murder, and grievous bodily harm was announced. At the same time, later official prosecutor's comments emphasize that conducting a full interrogation and formally announcing suspicion due to acute psychotic disorder is physically and legally impossible for now, although preparations for legal isolation continue.
Motion for preventive measure and reaction of country leadership
Despite the man's severe mental condition, the investigation continues to prepare necessary procedural steps to ensure public order. The district prosecutor's office intends to appeal to the court with an official motion to apply a preventive measure in the form of detention for a period of three months. If the court grants this request, the Ukrainian will be under temporary arrest directly within a specialized psychiatric hospital. The country's top leadership also reacted to the incident: President Volodymyr Zelenskyy publicly condemned the brutal crime and emphasized the utmost need for a thorough, objective, and comprehensive investigation into all circumstances of the tragedy.
