The threat of destroying the collection forced city authorities to make a radical decision. As Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov reported, specialists from the Department of Emergency Situations, together with rescuers, were forced to urgently evacuate cultural valuables to safe shelters.

“These are values that we must preserve. There is a threat that some exhibits may burn, or they may simply be flooded during firefighting. Therefore, we had to evacuate them,” the city head noted.

The incident demonstrated that in the conditions of hostilities, not only material objects but also the psychological state of residents and cultural institution employees are under attack.
