On the night of July 8, Kyiv was struck by ballistic missiles. A series of powerful explosions woke the city's residents, followed shortly by official information about an air raid and an attack by Russian forces.
Timeline of events
The first explosions occurred around 00:30. At that time, the alert system had not yet activated, and there were no official warnings of a threat. However, within a few minutes, an air raid alarm was declared in the city. The Ukrainian Air Force and local authorities confirmed the fact of a ballistic attack on the capital.
A second wave of explosions occurred at 00:53. Kyiv residents were warned of new missile launches, indicating the duration and intensity of the strike.
Consequences of the attack
According to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, as of the morning of July 8, the consequences of the attack were recorded in two administrative districts of the city — Desnyanskyi and Sviatoshynskyi.
In one of these districts, a Russian missile hit directly. This resulted in a fire in warehouse facilities. As Klitschko clarified, the building where the fire occurred is not residential, which reduces the risk to the civilian population.
Response from authorities and rescue services
Immediately after the attack began, units of the State Emergency Service (SES), firefighters, and medical teams were dispatched to the city. Rescue workers are on the scene eliminating the consequences of the explosions and extinguishing the fire. There is currently no information about casualties or injured persons.
Kyiv authorities urge residents to follow safety rules during air raids and not to approach the sites of explosions. It is also recommended to follow official sources of information and not to spread unverified data.
