Large-Scale Attack on Southern Russia
In the night of July 8, the Rostov region was subjected to a large-scale attack by unmanned aerial vehicles. This was reported by the acting governor of the region, Yuri Slyusar. According to him, the strikes hit 11 districts of the region, as well as the cities of Novoshakhtinsk, Kamensk-Shakhtinsky, and the waters of the Taganrog Bay.
Special attention in the government report was paid to events on the water. Two tankers heading to Rostov-on-Don were damaged in the Taganrog Bay. Russian authorities emphasize that both ships were empty at the time of the attack, which helped avoid an oil spill and an ecological disaster.
Casualties and Crew Evacuation
As a result of the incident, two people were injured. According to official data, one of them received medical assistance directly at the scene, while the second was taken to the hospital. After examination, both injured parties refused hospitalization.
On one of the damaged tankers, it was necessary to evacuate the crew. Russian authorities promised to clarify information about the nature of the damage sustained by the ships and other consequences of the attack in the near future.
Air Defense Response and Unconfirmed Data
Yuri Slyusar stated that air defense forces destroyed about 70 drones attempting to penetrate the region. However, at this time, it is impossible to confirm the statements of Russian authorities regarding the exact number of drones shot down and the detailed circumstances of the attack.
Against the backdrop of these events, it is worth noting that earlier on the morning of July 8, OSINT communities reported that the TANEKO oil refining complex in Nizhnekamsk was hit. This points to a wide geography of possible attacks in the night of July 8.
