Singer Aurica Rotaru has spoken so openly about her relationship with her legendary sister, People's Artist Sofia Rotaru, for the first time. In an interview with the YouTube project "Tour with Stars," cited by RBC-Ukraine, the performer talked about living in the shadow of a celebrity, how she reacts to constant comparisons, and whether she maintains contact with her relative during the war.

"Sofia Mikhailovna, hello"

For many years, Aurica has faced funny, but sometimes awkward situations. Passersby often mistook her for her sister — addressing her by name, asking for autographs, and congratulating her on anniversaries. "Very often, in the past, when we were walking together, people would come to me and say: 'Sofia Mikhailovna, hello'," the singer recalls.

But instead of offense or irritation, she feels only a smile. "Why should I be offended here? She is my sister," Aurica emphasizes. For her, comparison with Sofia is not competition, but a natural consequence of their kinship and shared musical path.

Contact, despite the silence

After the start of the full-scale Russian invasion, Sofia Rotaru left the public eye. She does not give interviews, rarely appears in public, but continues to live in Ukraine — in the Kyiv region, where, according to her sister, she tends to her garden and vegetable patch.

"Of course, of course. We are sisters, we communicate," Aurica confirmed. Their dialogue continues, albeit in the format of private conversations. Sofia sometimes posts on social media — reacting to shelling, sharing personal moments, but avoiding comments on politics or her career.

Music on pause

As for the stage — Sofia does not plan to return yet. "At least, during the war," Aurica noted. This decision reflects the position of many Ukrainian artists who prefer to remain silent or act quietly while the country is in a state of alarm.

Aurica, however, continues to create, perform, and communicate with fans — but always with respect for her sister's choice. Their story is not just a family chronicle, but an example of how close people can maintain contact even in the most difficult times, without demanding publicity or agreement from each other.
