By the end of October, traditional autumn breaks will begin in many Ukrainian educational institutions. According to the recommendations of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine for the 2026/2027 academic year, the duration of the rest during this period will be one week, but each educational institution has the right to independently determine exact dates based on local conditions.
Schedule and features of the break by regions
Roughly, the mass period of autumn rest in Ukrainian schools will fall on the last week of October. In particular, for capital educational institutions, a schedule is recommended according to which the break will last from Monday, October 26 to Sunday, November 1, 2026 inclusively. Thus, the total duration of the rest will be seven calendar days, and children will return to studying on Monday, November 2.
Autonomy of educational institutions and security impact
It is important to note that there is no single mandatory break schedule for the entire country. The government has established only the general framework of the academic year, which will run from September 1, 2026 to June 30, 2027. The specific structure of the educational process falls within the competence of school pedagogical councils, which can shift the rest schedule.
In addition, under martial law and potential infrastructure challenges, schedules can be promptly adjusted. The Ministry of Education recommends flexibly responding to situations involving prolonged air raid alerts, power outages, or heat supply interruptions, so parents are advised to check current dates in advance directly with school administrations.
