The autumn school holidays in 2026 will run from October 26 to November 1 — exactly one week, which many Ukrainian families are seeing not just as a break from school but as a chance to get their children out of constant stress, anxiety and shelling into a safer environment. It is in this spirit that Natalia Yakimenko, director of the travel agency “I’ll Fly Where I Want!”, describes the market demand in a column for Wave RBC.UA. In her words, for parents this is a chance to switch off, get some sleep, spend time together and recharge before returning to school. However, there is an important caveat: with only seven days available, you should not choose a destination purely on the principle of “where it is warm right now” — it is critically important to factor travel, transfers and the real time the family will actually spend on holiday into the plan.

Egypt: Minimal Logistics, Maximum Sea

If the main goal is sun, sea and the simplest possible logistics, experts advise starting your search with Egypt. In October the weather is reliably warm, the water is comfortable and there is a huge choice of hotels: from large family resorts with kids’ clubs, water slides and animation to calmer options. For a week-long trip this is one of the most convenient destinations — you don’t have to spend a significant part of your holiday on the road, and the child gets the essentials: sea, sun, a pool and a change of scenery. Yakimenko separately recommends looking not only at the familiar Sharm el-Sheikh and Hurghada but also Marsa Alam — for those who want to relax without large crowds but with a beautiful underwater world.

Tenerife and Cape Verde: For Those Who Want More Than the Beach

Tenerife is positioned as the choice for families who don’t plan to spend the whole week by the pool or the ocean. On the island you can combine the ocean, walks, nature and excursions; in October the weather is still comfortable for outdoor leisure. This destination is especially suitable for those for whom “holidays” mean not just lying on the beach but seeing something new, walking a lot and filling the week with impressions. Cape Verde, in turn, is offered as an option for those who want to literally switch from the Ukrainian autumn to summer: ocean, beaches, sun, hotels with good grounds and a holiday format in which you can rush nowhere. For children this is first and foremost the sea and space; for parents — a chance to catch their breath, with minimal urban bustle and maximum ocean.

Turkey and Cyprus: The Underrated Autumn

Turkey is usually seen as a summer destination, but late October to early November can pleasantly surprise. Yakimenko herself recalls a family trip to Side during the school holidays, calling it one of the best family holidays in Turkey: there are already few people, the daytime weather is pleasant, the sea is still warm, and in the evening a fresh coolness appears, ideal for walks. For family leisure this is a comfortable format — no need to hide from the heat, stand in queues or share the beach with thousands of tourists. Cyprus, according to the expert, will suit those who want to combine a seaside holiday with active walks and excursions. In autumn there is no longer the summer heat, so it is comfortable to walk, travel around the island and get to know its cities and nature. You can rent a car and see completely different corners of the island in a week. That said, by late October the sea may already be cooler than in the height of the season, so Cyprus should be chosen primarily for its mild weather, nature, walks and atmosphere, rather than as a guaranteed beach destination.

Asia: Only If You Have Extra Days

Thailand, Vietnam, Sri Lanka and Bali are destinations the expert loves very much, however, with only one week of holiday it is worth thinking carefully. A long flight and more complex logistics mean that part of your precious time will be spent on the road, and for young children this can be an additional ordeal. Yakimenko advises Asia if you can take at least 10, or better 14, days for the holiday, or if older children can spend their first week of school online from another country. In that case a distant trip really makes sense and turns into a full-fledged adventure.

Practical Guidelines for a Week-Long Trip

Bringing the recommendations together, the key principle for the autumn week of 2026 is this: the shorter the available time, the closer and logistically simpler the destination should be. Egypt and Turkey win thanks to their relatively short flights and developed hotel infrastructure; Tenerife, Cape Verde and Cyprus add nature and excursions without extreme fatigue from travel; Asia remains in reserve for those ready to extend the holidays or arrange remote learning for older children. Experts recommend booking already now — in September — so that by October 26 you don’t end up without suitable options and don’t overpay for the last available spots.
