On Friday, June 26, the city of Zaporizhzhia became the target of a powerful ballistic missile strike. The attack hit the central part of the city, where explosions triggered a large-scale fire and resulted in casualties.

Consequences of the strike: destruction and fires

According to the State Emergency Service (SES), during the attack, Russian drones delivered strikes that caused significant destruction. At the scene, four passenger cars caught fire. A single-story residential building suffered significant damage and was partially destroyed. The fire engulfed the building's roof over an area of 800 square meters.

Rescuers arrived at the scene promptly and have currently successfully extinguished the fires, preventing further spread of the flames.

Situation regarding casualties

The number of victims and injured resulting from the enemy attack continues to be clarified. The Head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration (RMA), Ivan Fedorov, reported that at the time of the initial statement, six people were injured. Later, this figure was adjusted to seven.

The SES clarified preliminary data: as a result of the attacks, nine women were injured. Medical personnel are providing all necessary assistance to the wounded. Additionally, 28 people, including four children, received psychological support.

Context of escalation

The shelling occurred against the backdrop of an escalating situation and threats of ballistic missile use. This is not an isolated incident in recent times. According to RBC-Ukraine, the Russian command has issued orders to significantly increase the intensity of kamikaze drone strikes on Zaporizhzhia.

The history of recent attacks on the city demonstrates a worrying trend:

  • June 24 (Wednesday): Strike on the city's beach area. Four people were injured, including three children. Cars and a public catering establishment were damaged, the latter temporarily closed.
  • June 22 (night): A series of attacks that resulted in damage to residential buildings and injuries to people.
  • June 20: Airstrikes led to significant destruction of civilian infrastructure. Twelve multi-story buildings, a social facility, private homes, and vehicles were damaged.
  • June 16 (evening): A strike caused fires in a residential building and a shopping center.

Events of recent days confirm that Zaporizhzhia remains one of the most vulnerable targets for Russian attacks, suffering colossal damage to infrastructure and threatening the lives of civilians.
