Deputy Permanent Representative of the United States to the United Nations Tammy Bruce issued a sharp condemnation of Russia's mass attacks on Kyiv, calling them a "barbaric escalation." During the UN Security Council meeting, she urged Moscow to immediately cease fire and return to the negotiating table.
Bruce emphasized that the latest strikes on Ukraine, including the use of "Oreshnik" ballistic missiles, resulted in the deaths of civilians. According to her, more than a hundred people were injured as a result of these attacks.
Damage and Casualties
"The latest mass strikes on Kyiv by Russia, including the use of hypersonic ballistic missiles 'Oreshnik,' are an inexplicable, dangerous, and barbaric escalation," stated the US representative.
She also pointed out destroyed and damaged facilities, including a museum, public transport, and residential buildings. Bruce stressed that such actions by Russia are "unacceptable and abhorrent."
Warning of Consequences
Additionally, Bruce warned Moscow against regular strikes on Kyiv, which could affect diplomatic efforts and complicate prospects for peace. She expressed concern that Russia is not fulfilling its obligations to protect diplomatic facilities and personnel, as required by international law.
"We remind Russia in clear terms of its legal obligations. The US again calls for an immediate comprehensive ceasefire as a step toward a sustainable negotiated end to the war," she said, emphasizing that diplomacy and negotiations are the only path to peace.
Alternative Scenario
Tammy Bruce noted that the alternative scenario is further "escalation of violence," which could spiral out of control. She emphasized that this is unacceptable.
According to her, the US is ready to play a constructive role if the parties are truly ready for peace.
Massive Strike on Ukraine
Recall that on the night of May 24, Russia carried out a massive combined strike on Ukraine, using drones as well as air, sea, and land-based missiles. The main target of the attack was Kyiv. Damage was recorded in all districts of the city. In particular, residential buildings were damaged, the "Kvadrat" shopping center burned down, and other facilities were affected.
According to the latest data, the number of casualties has risen to three, with more than 90 people injured.
