In the Grodno region, in close proximity to the borders of NATO countries, large-scale mobilization-related events are unfolding. Official Minsk describes the situation as a scheduled data verification, however, Kyiv interprets these actions as part of an aggressive strategy aimed at pressuring neighbors.
Mobilization in the Oshmyany district
According to information published on social media by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybyga, the military commissariat of the Oshmyany district has begun active work to summon conscripts. Between June 20 and July 2, it is planned to gather approximately 2000 people. Collection points have already been prepared and equipped for this purpose.
Although Belarusian authorities formally classify these actions as a routine data check, the geopolitical context of the situation causes serious concern in Kyiv. Minister Sybyga stated directly that such maneuvers serve as intimidation tactics for neighboring states.
Political blackmail and Kremlin interests
The head of the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that the strengthening of Minsk's military presence in border zones is not a spontaneous decision, but a strategy serving Moscow's interests. According to Sybyga, this is classic political blackmail, which directly contradicts the public statements of the Belarusian leadership regarding their desire for peace.
"Ukraine continues to monitor the activities of Belarus, reiterates Minsk's caveats regarding participation in Russian aggression, and calls on the international community to increase pressure on the Lukashenko regime," noted the Ukrainian diplomat.
Background: Nuclear exercises and regional security
The current situation is developing against the backdrop of recent events in May, when Belarus, together with Russia, conducted exercises involving tactical nuclear weapons. In the Kremlin, these maneuvers were presented as a "signal to NATO." At the same time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine stated that the deployment of such weapons on the alliance's borders effectively changes the security architecture of the entire region.
Experts from the Main Directorate of Intelligence (HUR) of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine assess Russia's current capabilities as follows: Russia currently lacks sufficient forces for an offensive from the direction of Belarus. However, Moscow continues to exert pressure on Minsk, striving to involve Belarusian units in active combat operations.
