The Ukrainian biathlon team has finalized its roster for participation in the prestigious international urban festival Loop One. The large-scale sporting event will take place on October 17–18, 2026, in the Olympic Park of Munich, Germany, attracting the attention of top athletes from around the globe. The competitions are organized within the calendar of the International Biathlon Union (IBU) and offer spectators a unique format of urban roller-ski biathlon.
Ukrainian Team Roster and Preparation
The Ukrainian delegation at the tournament will be represented by four experienced and promising athletes — two men and two women. This selection is the result of fierce national competition and summer training, culminating in the 2026 Ukrainian Summer Biathlon Championship. At the national championship, Vitalii Mandzyn demonstrated excellent readiness by winning a gold medal in the mass start, while Oleksandra Merkushyna secured the silver step of the podium in the sprint race. Anton Dudchenko also showed a consistently high level, finishing fourth in the sprint and winning a bronze medal in the mass start.
Scale and Global Level of the Loop One Festival
The Loop One summer biathlon festival is being held for the second time in history and is rapidly gaining popularity among professionals and fans. The elite sports program in Munich includes qualification rounds and exciting finals in the super sprint and mass start on roller skis. A total of 60 top-ranked male and female biathletes from the world IBU rankings will take to the start line. The tournament will gather the elite of world sport, including Olympic champions and medalists, as well as current season title holders Éric Perrot, Lisa Vittozzi, Sturla Holm Lægreid, Johan-Olav Botn, and Elvira Öberg.
Contradictory Data
When covering the Ukrainian team roster for the Loop One Festival, certain discrepancies arose in various sports media outlets. Specifically, early news reports from specialized publications focused exclusively on leading male biathletes such as Vitalii Mandzyn and Anton Dudchenko. However, later and more detailed publications from authoritative sports portals clarified the complete official team roster, which also included female team representatives Oleksandra Merkushyna and Khrystyna Dmytrenko. Such clarifications are related to the phased approval of the final athlete lists by the national federation following the conclusion of domestic summer trials.
Broadcast and Prospects
For Ukrainian winter sports fans, the event will be available live thanks to the official broadcaster. In Ukraine, the exclusive broadcaster of the competitions is the Suspilne Sport sports division. The performance of Ukrainian biathletes in Munich arenas will serve as an important testing ground ahead of the winter World Cup season, where the national team will defend the country's honor on the international stage.
