The night of June 15 marked a new wave of large-scale aggression for Kyiv. As a result of a mass attack by the Russian Federation on the capital of Ukraine, not only residential areas and infrastructure suffered, but also significant cultural landmarks. One of the epicenters of the tragedy became the National Cultural and Artistic and Museum Complex 'Mystetskyi Arsenal'.
Fire in the Heart of Cultural Life
According to the State Emergency Service (SES) and the press service of the institution itself, a powerful fire broke out on the territory of the complex. Preliminary data indicates that the cause of the fire was the impact of a 'Shahed' type strike drone.
The fire engulfed a significant part of the building. According to official data from rescuers, the fire area was about 1000 square meters. Specialized services are working at the scene, assessing the scale of destruction and attempting to localize the fire. Fortunately, according to information from the institution, all staff members of the complex are safe.
Strike During Firefighting
Ukrainian Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko reported a worrying detail: the strike on 'Mystetskyi Arsenal' occurred at the moment when rescuers were already carrying out work to eliminate the consequences of a previous strike in the center of the capital. This refers to the fire in the main cathedral of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.
"At the time when rescuers were trying to extinguish the flames in the main cathedral of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, the occupiers struck again nearby — at the National Cultural and Artistic and Museum Complex 'Mystetskyi Arsenal'," the minister noted.
Consequences for the City
The night attack dealt a blow to the entire infrastructure of Kyiv. Consequences were recorded in almost all districts of the city, and some northern districts were left without electricity. According to the latest data, four people were killed and more than 30 were injured as a result of the shelling.
In addition to cultural objects, logistics hubs were also damaged: the largest and most modern sorting terminal of 'Nova Poshta' was destroyed. Public transport movement — trams, trolleybuses, and buses — was changed in the center of the capital, and traffic was completely blocked on several streets.
Strike Against Heritage
In a statement from 'Mystetskyi Arsenal' itself, the symbolic importance of the event is emphasized. "For many people, Mystetskyi Arsenal is a place to meet with culture, history, and important public conversations. Today, Russian aggression once again strikes at Ukraine's cultural heritage," the statement reads.
Rescuers continue their work at the scene of the fire, and the exact scale of the damage will be assessed after the fire is fully extinguished.
