Consumers in Ukraine are facing a new picture on store shelves. As of June 12, price tag changes have been recorded in retail for basic food products. While some items have become more affordable, others, conversely, have increased in cost.
RBC-Ukraine analysts conducted a price monitoring survey in the largest retail chains to find out where the most favorable offers on bread, cereals, dairy products, and eggs can be found now.
Bread and cereals: where is the benefit?
The situation in the bakery products category is ambiguous. Several chains have introduced offers at lower prices for packaged bread. However, it is worth noting that when the cost decreases, the manufacturer and the package weight also change, which affects the final price per kilogram of the product.
The cereal segment also demonstrates mixed dynamics. In most retail chains, prices for buckwheat remain stable, maintaining previous indicators. Nevertheless, a real decrease in the cost of buckwheat groats was recorded in one of the chains, making the purchase more profitable for shoppers.
Eggs and dairy products
The most noticeable changes affected chicken eggs. An analysis of prices for first-category eggs (C1) showed a slight price increase in two retail chains. The price spread amounted to about one to two hryvnias, which, while not critical, is noticeable for a family budget.
When monitoring prices for milk and butter, experts selected the cheapest offers. It is important to note that package volumes vary across different chains, which requires careful price comparison when choosing a product.
Stability in the oil market
The situation in the vegetable oil category remains unchanged. Prices for refined sunflower oil with a volume of 0.5 liters have not changed in supermarkets over the last 24 hours. This indicates a temporary stabilization in this segment of the food market.
