Chernivtsi football club Bukovyna is close to finishing a large-scale renovation of its home stadium, which shares the team's name. According to information published on the club's official Facebook page and reported by Sport RBC.UA, the team from Chernivtsi intends to fulfill its promise to the fans and play the 15th-round Ukrainian Premier League match against Odesa's Chornomorets on December 5 at their updated home arena. Thus, the club expects to play the final home fixture of the calendar year right in Chernivtsi, rather than on a neutral field or rented stadium, as they were forced to do in previous seasons.
Artificial Lighting: A Crucial Node of the Final Stage
One of the main tasks remaining in the final modernization stage is the installation of a modern artificial lighting system, without which holding matches according to UPL requirements is impossible. Floodlight structures and necessary technical equipment to increase power supply capacity have already been installed at the stadium. According to the club, the lighting installation is scheduled to be completed by the end of November 2026. This means that contractors have about two to three weeks before the match against Chornomorets for final tuning, test runs, and obtaining the relevant permits from the league.
Football Pitch: Underground Drainage, Heating, and New Turf
The modernization of the arena was not limited exclusively to lighting installation. Earlier, the football pitch at the stadium was completely reconstructed: an underground drainage system was built, an automatic watering system was mounted, electric pitch heating was laid, and a new natural grass cover was installed. Such a set of engineering solutions allows the playing surface to be maintained in proper condition throughout the entire season, including the autumn-winter period when weather conditions in western Ukraine often become a serious test for the turf.
Club Infrastructure and Stands
In parallel with the pitch works and lighting installation, the club has updated the stadium's internal infrastructure: club premises, team locker rooms, medical, and massage rooms have been repaired. At the time of publication, work continues on modernizing the stands and setting up infrastructure for television broadcasts. It is these elements—stand compliance with regulations and the availability of a technical base for television cameras—that are mandatory conditions for licensing the stadium to host top-flight Ukrainian football matches.
What This Means for the Season and Fans
The comprehensive upgrade of the home arena should bring the Bukovyna stadium into full compliance with Ukrainian Premier League requirements and allow the team to fully host opponents in Chernivtsi. For fans, this means the return of the familiar home match atmosphere to their native stands, and for the club—the removal of logistical and financial burdens associated with playing away or at rented venues. The 15th-round match against Chornomorets will be the first real test for the updated arena: it is here that the performance of the entire lighting system, the state of the pitch, and the readiness of club premises to receive the opponent and spectators will be tested.
