The Ukrainian agricultural market is experiencing an active seasonal shift. Last week, a sharp divergence in prices for popular vegetables was recorded: early white cabbage increased significantly in price, while greenhouse tomatoes continued to decrease in cost. Experts link these changes to the natural harvest cycle and the redistribution of supply volumes.

Cabbage shortage and price surge

The situation in the cabbage market has intensified due to a temporary gap between the end of the early variety season and the beginning of the mass harvest of mid-season and mid-late varieties. As analysts from EastFruit report, it is precisely this "window" that created a product shortage, which was immediately reflected in farmers' price lists.

According to RBC-Ukraine data, the cost of new harvest white cabbage (2026) has risen by 52% compared to the end of the previous work week. Currently, producers are offering products in the range of 12 to 20 hryvnias per kilogram. A stable demand from the population, which does not decline even with rising prices, remains an additional driver of growth.

Compared to last year, the situation also looks more expensive: new harvest cabbage costs an average of 20% higher than at the end of June 2025. However, market participants predict a quick change in the situation. It is expected that after large volumes of mid-season cabbage varieties enter the market, prices will begin to fall.

Greenhouse tomatoes: the fight for the buyer

Unlike cabbage, the greenhouse tomato market demonstrates the opposite trend. Producers are forced to lower prices to maintain sales volumes. The reason was the active influx of vegetables from summer greenhouses, which sharply increased supply and intensified competition between agricultural enterprises.

Attempts by some farms to maintain the previous price level led to a slowdown in sales, forcing a strategy review. As of the end of last week, large greenhouse complexes were selling tomatoes at prices ranging from 70 to 110 hryvnias per kilogram. This is 13% cheaper than a week earlier.

Experts note that such a decline is traditional for the second half of June. Nevertheless, on a year-on-year basis, greenhouse tomatoes in Ukraine remain more expensive: their current cost is approximately 23% higher than during the same period in 2025.

Overall picture of the vegetable basket

The dynamics of vegetable prices in Ukraine are uneven. Over the last week, there has been a divergent movement in the cost of various crops:

  • Became cheaper: new potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, zucchini, greens, cherries, and raspberries.
  • Became more expensive: sweet cherries, strawberries, blueberries, peaches, young cabbage, and onions.

Currently, strawberries, sweet cherries, garlic, and sweet corn are of greatest interest to buyers. The market continues to respond to seasonal changes, offering consumers a wide choice of products in different price categories.
