Polish studio CD Projekt Red has officially confirmed rumors and announced a third major story expansion for the cult classic RPG The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The new DLC is titled Songs of the Past.
This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing an official statement from the developers on social media platform X.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was released back in 2015, followed by two critically acclaimed and player-loved expansions — Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. Ten years have passed since then, and the development of a full sequel — The Witcher 4 — is still far from completion.
To compensate fans for years of waiting for the next installment, the developers decided to return to their most successful game.
“The medallion is humming... that can only mean one thing! It’s time to announce The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Songs of the Past! This brand-new expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will once again take you on the Path with Geralt of Rivia. It is being developed in collaboration with @Fools_Theory...” — the developers wrote on X.
Songs of the Past is being created in partnership with another well-known Polish studio, Fool’s Theory. This team has already been closely collaborating with CD Projekt Red on the upcoming full remake of the first Witcher game.
CD Projekt RED’s Director of Global Community and Social Media, Marcin Momot, confirmed that the team had planned to release the news later.
“Sometimes things don’t go as planned, but that’s life. Initially, we intended to announce this tomorrow. The main thing is that the good news is already out, and we hope you’re happy about it,” Momot noted.
The release of the major story expansion The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Songs of the Past is scheduled for 2027. The new content will be available for PC owners, as well as current-generation consoles PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
Notably, the developers made no mention of Nintendo consoles. The original third installment previously received a successful port to Nintendo Switch, and now the more powerful Switch 2 has already entered the market. Despite this, Songs of the Past will not be released on any of the Japanese company’s platforms.
