The European football calendar has closed one of the most eventful and unpredictable chapters in its history. The 2025/26 season ended with loud triumphs and unexpected sensations that rewrote the history of national leagues. In most countries of the continent, new kings have already been determined, who will represent their associations on the international arena next year.

The return of legends and title defenses

The main event in the top European leagues was the long-awaited triumph of London's Arsenal. The club won its 14th English championship title, ending a 22-year pause in victories. This event became a real celebration for the "Gunners" fans, who returned the gold medals to London.

On other fronts, the struggle also did not subside. In Italy, Milan's Inter won the 21st Scudetto, confirming its status as one of the strongest teams on the continent. In Germany, Munich's Bayern Munich won the jubilee 35th "Salad Bowl", continuing to dominate the Bundesliga. Spanish Barcelona also marked success, winning its 29th national championship title.

The Ukrainian Premier League also summed up the results. Donetsk's Shakhtar successfully defended its status as the strongest team in the country, winning its 16th championship in the club's history. Despite the success of the Ukrainian team, our association still occupies 23rd place in the overall UEFA ranking.

The era of debutants: who became champion for the first time

However, this season is remembered not only for the victories of recognized giants. The football map of Europe has been replenished with new names - teams that for the first time in their history have risen to the top of national championships. Among such debutants:

  • Swiss "Tun";
  • Swedish "Mjallby" - a team from a fishing village that sensationally triumphed in Sweden;
  • Azerbaijani "Sabah";
  • Lithuanian "Kauno Zalgiris";
  • Luxembourgish "Atert".

These victories became proof that in modern football there is no place for self-satisfaction, and competition is growing with each year.

European cup prospects

With the end of the season, all holders of direct tickets to the Champions League 2026/27 were determined. The full list of winners of national leagues is structured according to the current place of countries in the UEFA Coefficient Table. It should be noted that in some countries the championship is held on a "spring-autumn" system, which also affects the calendar of European cup starts.

Liechtenstein has a special status: there is no own football league here, so the country is represented in European cups by the winner of the national Cup - the club "Vaduz", which plays in the Swiss championship.
