Change of power and new challenges: Zelenskyy fires the Prime Minister and discusses infrastructure protection with the head of Naftogaz

A significant political shift has occurred in Kyiv. Immediately after a meeting with Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy received a report from the Chairman of the Board of the State Enterprise "Naftogaz of Ukraine", Serhiy Kuretskyi. This meeting took place against the backdrop of personnel changes in the government and discussions on strategies to protect critical infrastructure.

Personnel changes in the government

Today, July 12, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accepted the resignation of Yulia Svyrydenko from the post of Prime Minister. The head of state announced that Svyrydenko will head a new important area of activity. Additionally, the President informed about plans to change the composition of the heads of law enforcement agencies.

Rumors have already appeared in the political field regarding who might occupy the vacant chair of the Prime Minister. A number of People's Deputies name Serhiy Kuretskyi as one of the main candidates for this position. However, no official appointments to this post have been made yet.

Energy security and national interests

The central point of the meeting was the discussion of the work of strategic state companies. The President thanked Serhiy Kuretskyi for the effective management of "Ukrnafta" and "Naftogaz". Zelenskyy emphasized the complexity of this sphere, noting a significant overlap of interests, and expressed confidence that the head of "Naftogaz" ensured the observance of Ukraine's national interests.

New challenges for infrastructure

During the conversation, the parties discussed current threats. The President noted that the country is currently facing new challenges caused by Russian strikes. Special attention was paid to attacks on energy infrastructure in border and frontline regions, as well as strikes on gas stations and other facilities.

"Today we discussed what steps our state needs to take for greater resilience of Ukraine and to ensure certain results within the framework of the updated political strategy of our state," Zelenskyy added, summarizing the meeting.
