A new stage of admissions to vocational and technical education institutions is beginning in Ukraine. However, not all applicants know which specialties traditionally attract the most interest from schoolchildren. Deputy Minister of Education and Science Dmytro Zavhorodniy told RBC-Ukraine about the training directions that remain the leaders in demand.

Who leads in vocational education

According to the expert, the most popular profession in the Ukrainian vocational education system remains the chef. This direction consistently attracts the largest number of applicants in almost all regions of the country.

In addition to culinary arts, there is high demand for technical specialties. Zavhorodniy noted that among the leaders are also:

  • auto mechanics;
  • agricultural machinery fitters;
  • tractor drivers;
  • welders.

Nursing — the favorite of post-secondary education

In the segment of post-secondary vocational education, the situation is somewhat different. Here, the undisputed leader is the specialty of "nursing". In every region of Ukraine, there are many quality colleges where a competition is announced annually for this direction.

"You will need to prepare well if you are planning to study nursing," warned the representative of the Ministry of Education and Science, emphasizing the high level of competition for places in medical educational institutions.

State priority: engineering and agriculture

Despite the popularity of "conjunctural" specialties, such as management or finance, state policy in the field of education focuses on the development of engineering and natural science directions. Special attention is paid to institutions working in the field of agriculture.

The expert emphasized that agricultural specialties are also in significant demand. There are already successful examples of educational institutions in the industry that produce highly qualified specialists in demand in the labor market.
